Pet First Aid Kit Contents
After gathering all of the first aid kit contents, place the items in a portable container for easy access. Remember to replace all items after each use and update perishable contents twice a year.
All of these items, except the blanket, will fit in a fanny pack for those extended walks or hikes.
Dressings and Bandages
- Adhesive Tape (1 inch roll)
- Gauze Pads (3 or 4 inch squares)
- Rolled Gauze (2 inch for small pets, 3 inch for large dogs)
- Triangular Bandages
- Individually Wrapped Sanitary Napkins
Instruments
- Digital Thermometer (check battery twice a year)
- Scissors (blunt nosed)
- Tweezers
- Eye Dropper
- Syringe (12cc or larger as needed, with needle removed)
Ointments, Disinfectants and Medications
- Antihistamine (gel caps in blister pack, poke hole in cap and squirt into pet’s mouth)
- Triple Antibiotic (i.e. Neosporin)
- Hydrogen Peroxide (3%)
- Vinegar or Baking Soda (a mild alkali for neutralizing burns caused by acids)
- Activated Charcoal (for absorbing toxins)
- Petroleum Jelly (or other sterile lubricant for thermometer)
- Kaopectate (or other vet approved type of Anti-Diarrheal Upset Stomach Reliever)
- Chemical Ice Pack
Miscellaneous Equipment and Supplies
- Small Flashlight
- Needle Nose Pliers
- Q-Tips
- Betadine Solution
- Razor Blades
- Extra Leash and Collar
- Muzzle
- Plastic Bags (for clean up or stool or vomitus samples)
- Permanent Marking Pen
- Photo of You and Your Pet Together
- Towel or Blanket (large enough to transport pet)
- Gloves (latex or nitrile)
