Meghan Carleton

Pet Tech® Instructor
Member Since 04/05/2019

About this Pet Tech® member:

My name is Meghan and I entered the pet care industry after a professional stint in the outdoor field. During my time as a wilderness therapy guide, I was required to undergo extensive training in back country first aid and became certified as a Wilderness First Responder (WFR). It was a knowledge base that I found not only useful to my daily job, but also very empowering. I was gifted with new confidence that allowed me to explore further and longer than I ever had and put an ease to some lifelong anxieties surrounding injuries and accidents.

In 2017, I welcomed my favorite four-legged adventure buddy into my home. As a Lab-Aussie mix, my dog Gus came barreling into my life full of energy and very accident prone. It was not long after getting Gus that I found my prior doubts and anxieties about safety creeping back into my life. Due to my lack of knowledge on how to care for an injured dog, he was frequently either left home, or taken on short, unenjoyable hikes with a panic-stricken mom.

In 2019, we relocated to Phoenix and due to extensive heat and allergy related incidents, I finally sought out an animal first aid course. The sense of security I obtained from the PetTech curriculum is something I found so comforting that I decided to become an instructor. Accidents are not restricted to outdoor activities. In fact, because there is no 9-1-1 for dogs, almost everywhere could be considered the “backcountry”. It is my goal that at the end of my trainings, students will feel confident and comfortable in their ability to intervene in any pet emergency situation.
