Hello My name is Andrea Sloan, I am a dedicated and passionate pet groomer with 11 years’ experience in the grooming industry. I grew up in Anderson Indiana, my dad as a firefighter with a trained fire dog Freckles. Freckles was a wonderful dog who was always assisting in Fire Safety, and not only was she a great safety dog, she was a great companion. We also had a dog in our home for as long as I could remember. This was just the beginning of me and loving my animals and Pets.
My first job after high school graduation was with special needs children. I started out working in a childrens home located in Arcadia Indiana, accomplishing 2 certificates. One being a Certified Nursing Assistant, then going on to get a Qualified Medication Aide, allowing me to know the knowledge of medication and administering to the children at the home. This lead me to start a career geared toward the passion of healthcare. I then went on to work for Community Hospital as a Unit Clerk. During those 5 years I began a great relationship with the physicians doing hospital rounds. I also married my High School sweetheart and had my first son in those 5 years.
I am still happily married with 2 adult sons. Brandon 26 , and Jacob 31. I have 2 dogs, Bailey a American cocker spaniel, and Dalmatian Camey. after 5 years in the hospital I then went to work for 4 neurologists, starting at front desk earning my way up to billing and coding, for the following 16 years.
Medical begin to change so much and I started losing passion with as in a office setting it no longer was about patient care and the families. It became more about money and numbers. My office manger did not manage well, and all the drama and uncontrolled environment, was weighing on my mental and physical health. It was time for a change.
After discussing things with my husband, I gave my notice to the doctors and had found a school for Dog grooming. I then started my journey to change my life and career in the Pet industry. From here is history. It was so new, scary, and exciting all at the same time. Following my heart, yet leaving a comfortable position of income and the not knowing how or If I could make this career work. The unknowns and the what ifs became I Got this and I can do this. I love dogs and my heart was becoming full. During this time of instruction and classes, is when I first learned of Pet Tech First Aide and CPR for pets. I have kept up with my certification and now owning my own Salon. I Also have attended and helped with several classed taking employees to become certified.
Today I am now beginning my Master groomer certification, and now earning my PetTech certificate to become a teacher to Certify not only my employee’s, but to general pet parents and groups of general public.
