Animals of all types have been part of my life for as long as I can remember, but my passion has never been just about animals.
It’s about understanding.
Growing up, I experienced firsthand how communication—or the lack of it—can shape relationships. I wasn’t someone who naturally fit in, and I remember what it felt like to be misunderstood and bullied at school. At home, my family often struggled to communicate in ways that left everyone feeling heard. Those experiences sparked a lifelong curiosity about behavior, learning, and what helps people and animals feel safe, understood, and able to thrive.
Looking back, I realize those early experiences also shaped my belief that fear, intimidation, and force don’t create trust. They create stress, confusion, and emotional distance. That realization became the foundation of my work with dogs and the people who love them.
That curiosity led me to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and eventually dedicate my career to understanding the behavior of humans and animals.
For more than 20 years, I’ve worked with companion animals and their families, helping them navigate everything from puppy challenges to fear, reactivity, anxiety, and everyday behaviors that make life together difficult. Along the way, I’ve continued my education through specialized training in behavior science, Fear Free®, Low Stress Handling®, Family Dog Mediation®, and other evidence-based approaches that support both learning and emotional well-being in our pets.
What I’ve learned is simple:
Behavior is never “just bad behavior.”
Every behavior is communication.
When we stop asking, “How do I make my dog stop?” and start asking, “What is my dog trying to tell me?” everything changes.
Pets don’t misbehave to give us a hard time. They behave in ways that make sense to them based on their emotions, experiences, environment, and the skills they have—or haven’t yet learned. My role is to help you understand what your pet is communicating so we can address the underlying cause of the behavior, not just the symptom.
That’s why I founded Respectful Communications Animal Training LLC.
I don’t believe successful training is measured by how quickly a dog obeys a cue. I believe it’s measured by how confidently dogs and their people can navigate everyday life together.
My goal isn’t simply to teach your dog new behaviors.
It’s to help you understand one another, build trust, reduce frustration, and create a relationship where both of you can succeed.
