Founded in 2018 by Gray Akers, LVT — an animal lover with 10+ years’ experience in the animal care field. 2nd Quadrant District Pet Care is an independent business owned and operated solely by Gray, who absolutely adores her clients and their pets. As a licensed veterinary technician (since 2014), she has several years of professional clinical experience under her belt and maintains positive ties with the city’s most prominent veterinary clinics.

She cares passionately about low-stress care (she is Fear Free-certified as a Level 2 Veterinary Professional), feline-friendly techniques and environments, caring for senior and/or special needs pets, and is generally quite flexible and accommodating (as much as is possible!) in terms of her clients’ (the people AND their pets!) needs. 2nd Quadrant District Pet Care is bonded & insured through Pet Sitters Associates, and Gray represents her business through several professional pet-sitting and veterinary organizations, including Pet Sitters International (PSI), the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS), the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC) as a Supporting member in feline behavior, and many more! She is also so very close to becoming a Certified Professional Pet Sitter (CPPS) through Pet Sitters International — a very honorable distinction in the professional pet care world!

Gray’s wealth of knowledge about veterinary medicine, animal behavior, species-specific “quirks,” as well as her commitment to providing the highest-quality animal care in DC helps to distinguish 2nd Quadrant from the “rest of the pack.” Attempting to weave business ownership with social activism, 2nd Quadrant and Gray attempt to incorporate ethical, responsible consumerism, as well as earnest volunteerism and charity to nonprofits at the precipice of positive change for both humans and animals alike, into her business models and policies.
