My name is Lynn, and it seems like I have always had a dog or cat in my life. I’ve lived most of my life in Southern Arizona. I travel for about 15 years to San Diego, CA; Niagara Falls, NY; and Sarasota, FL. When my mother got sick, I decided to move back home to Prescott Valley, AZ in 2011.
I have had pets with seizure disorder, another one who choked on her food more than once, and different health issues. Not knowing what to do, I could only helplessly stand by and watch my poor babies go through it or panic while trying to help them, not knowing if I was doing the right thing or not.
What really got me interested in finding out more about pet health and wellness is when my 13-year-old dog Karma developed stomach cancer and unfortunately, passed. When this happened my little pup Twinkles (Twink) started crying uncontrollable every time I left the house and when I came home for almost two weeks. She became paranoid to get in the car and would physically shake and her cry was almost like a scream. She had traveled in the car for years before with no problem, I believe it is because I took Karma to the Vet, and she did not come back home with me.
This is when I enrolled in Canine Care and Handling at Yavapai College. I wanted to understand the canine psyche to help her. Since then, she is better about getting in the car, but not there yet. I have received two certificates; one for Canine Care & Handling (psychology included), and the other in Therapy & Service Dog Team Skills.
In September 2019, I became President of Animal Disaster Services (ADS). We are a temporary shelter for pets during evacuations due to fire, floods or any disaster/emergency. My passion for helping pets in distress really grew. I wanted to know how to help pets in stress, injured or if any other lifesaving need arose. I also wanted to reassure the pet parents that we were trained and would take very good care of their baby.
I heard about Pet Tech and a class they were giving in Canine First Aid & CPR and registered right away. I was so impressed that we are currently requiring each volunteer with ADS to take the minimum 5-6 hour course in order to help others pets during an evacuation when their beloved pets are already in crisis mode due to the emergency.
In July 2021 I became a certified Pet Tech Instructor so I could teach other pet owners, volunteers and friends Pet First Aid, CPR and Wellness so their pets can live a longer, and better quality of life.
I don’t want another pet parent to feel helpless like I did when an emergency arose. When you learn pet first aid, CPR and wellness, your confidence level increases and you will know what to do in case of an emergency with more.
I offer classes in my home, in a relaxed atmosphere or can come to your institution/facility where others can also learn these valuable life saving techniques for their pets or a friend’s pet.
